Abstract: Blockchain technology has arguably gone off the boil in the last couple of years. There is no longer as much hype around new projects, many bespoke economics projects that held initial promise have failed, and the scalability issues around stalwarts like Ethereum are well documented. However, in the far edges of this space, a thriving smorgasbord of projects exist that have the potential to shape the future of finance. This talk introduces the key ideas of decentralised finance using ideas and analogies from the app store’s most popular game – Clash Royale: Choose your flavour from Fungibles, Non-fungibles, Decentralized Borrowing and Lending, Stable Coins, Smart Tokens and Royal Giants.
Bio: Dr Viroshan Naicker is the founder of North Quotient, an advisory business that develops strategic 4IR intellectual property for the fintech sector. Before taking the plunge into industry, Dr Naicker was an academic in the Mathematics Department at Rhodes University. He holds a Doctorate in Graph Theory from the University of Johannesburg, and a Masters Degree in Physics from UKZN, completed at the Center for Quantum Technology.
