Topic: Overview of the CSIR Energy Centre
Synopsis: The CSIR Energy Centre provides the scientific expertise and
essential research infrastructure necessary to address South Africa’s growing
energy needs and the associated industrialisation opportunities for new
products and services. It provides thought leadership, innovation and capacity
building to address the two main energy imperatives of energy-efficiency and
cleaner energy. The Centre’s activities are guided by global trends whilst being mindful of local
realities focused on developing a sustainable energy system.

Muhammad Sheik – Candidate Engineer
Bio: Muhammad Sheik is a candidate engineer at the CSIR Energy Centre and specialises in the optimisation of thermal systems. He graduated from UKZN with a BSc in Mechanical Engineering (Cum Laude) in 2018. Muhammad was part of the CSIR Graduate-in-Training program from 2019 to 2020. He is registered as a candidate engineer with ECSA.
