Ten Computer Science master’s students at UKZN presented their work at an Artificial Intelligence (AI) conference in Cape Town recently.
The full papers, work in progress presentations, and posters were well received and the conference was a good opportunity to interact with peers and local and international experts.
The Forum for Artificial Intelligence Research was the inaugural conference of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence Research (CAIR). The CAIR is a South African research centre that conducts foundational, directed and applied research into various aspects of AI and supports collaboration among tertiary institutions working in this field. The Discipline of Computer Science at UKZN is one of several nodes in the CAIR network. The CAIR is supported by the South African Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) and is hosted by the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).
The primary aim of the conference was to bring together researchers, scholars and industry participants to exchange and share their experiences and latest research results in all aspects of AI. Keynote addresses were presented by, among others, Professor Adnan Darwiche, former Chair of the Computer Science Department at the University of California, Los Angeles, and Professor Andries Engelbrecht, Voigt Chair in Data Science at Stellenbosch University.
