Transnet visits UKZN

A Transnet Board delegation recently visited the Eskom Power Plant Engineering Institute’s Specialisation Centre in High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) and FACTS at UKZN during which potential projects and collaborations were discussed with University representatives.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research, Professor Deresh Ramjugernath, and Dean and Head of the School of Engineering, Professor Cristina Trois, accompanied the Transnet officials.

The Centre’s Director, Professor Dave Dorrell, took the delegation on a tour of the Vibration Research Test Centre (VRTC) – which carries out research on the effects of stress and vibrations on overhead power lines – and the Smart Grids Building.

The HVDC Specialisation Centre, which is supported financially by Eskom and other bodies, is looking to expand work with several stakeholders in the areas of electrical power generation, transmission and utilisation.
