Mr Jaydon Beru who was awarded a UKZN Prestige Sports Scholarship.

BSc Property Development student, Mr Jaydon Beru, is the proud recipient of the UKZN Prestige Sports Scholarship.

The scholarship is awarded for outstanding achievement in sports at international, national or provincial levels. Beru is ecstatic that the University selected him and is honoured to represent UKZN in the sporting arena.

The Badminton (a racquet sport played using racquets to hit a shuttlecock across a net) player has managed to strike a fine balance between his studies and sport. His motivation stemmed from being raised in a family of engineers which also lead him to pursuit a degree in the same discipline.

He aspires to change the world through sport and education. ‘My plans for the future are to represent South African in Badminton World Junior Championships as well as complete my degree, make a significant difference in my environment and help other young people achieve their goals as well,’ said Beru.

He expressed his gratitude to his scholarship award sponsors for granting him the opportunity to obtain his degree and the huge impact the scholarship has had in his life. He is also grateful to his parents for being his role models. ‘My parents’ standard of lifestyle is something that I would like to achieve one day,’ he said.

His father Mr Shaun Beru, rejoiced in his son’s achievement. ‘Financially it has been a great assistance. We are able to send him to more tournaments and give him the necessary tools to achieve his sporting goals. If he did not have the scholarship this would have greatly impacted us negatively, so thank you so much for helping us help our son,’ said the proud father.
