Financial Clearance for Local Students

Financial Clearance for International Students

Students are required to first update/clear their study permit records with the International Office prior to seeking financial clearance for registration.

All outstanding fees must be cleared prior to seeking for financial clearance for the 2026 academic year.

Total fees for academic year are payable upfront prior to registration.

NB: All foreign payments takes a minimum of two weeks to reflect on the student fee account. Therefore student are advised to make the payment in advance in order to prevent any financial clearance delays which will be automatic upon receipt of the required deposits.

Within the SADC Region

  • Pay full local fees upfront prior to being granted financial clearance. To determine the total tuition fees payable, student should request a proforma invoice from their respective College offices.
  • Pay the required international student levies. For 2021, student levy is R 1900 is registering for one semester only and R 3800 if registering for whole year.
  • All outstanding fees must be cleared prior to seeking for financial clearance for the 2021 academic year, unless stated otherwise.

Outside the SADC Region Within Africa (Undergraduates)

  • Are required to pay their full international fees upfront prior to being granted financial clearance, fees payable are available from the fee booklet accessible from the UKZN web page – student portal

Outside the SADC Region Within Africa (Postgraduates)

  • Are required to pay full local fees for both tuition and residence, if applicable, upfront prior to being granted financial clearance.
  • To determine the total tuition fees payable, student should request a proforma invoice from their respective College offices.
  • Pay the required international student levies. For 2021, student levy is R 1900 is registering for one semester only and R 3800 if registering for whole year.
  • For residence fees, students should contact the Department of Student Residence and Accommodation (DSRA) for a quotation.

Students from Abroad

  • Are required to pay their full international fees upfront prior to being granted financial clearance. Fees payable are available from the fees booklet accessible from the UKZN web page – student portal. These fees are to cover tuition fees only.
  • For residence fees, students should contact the Department of Student Residence and Accommodation (DSRA) for a quotation.

New Masters/PhD students 

Local Students

  • Financial clearance will be done at the respective office with the Financial Aid Advisor.
  • Clearance with outstanding debt – please refer above for outstanding debt process.

International student (SADC & Non-SADC)

  • Are required to update or clear their study permit records with the International office in their respective Campuses prior to seeking financial clearance.
  • Pay the required international student levies. For 2021, student levy is R 1900 is registering for one semester only and R 3800 if registering for whole year.

Continuing Masters/PhD clearances

Local students

  • Pay the required continuing fees as per the proforma invoice obtained from your respective college office.
  • Forward proforma invoice and proof of payment to your Fees officer for financial clearance.

  • Clearance with outstanding debt – please refer above for outstanding debt process.

 

International students (SADC & Non-SADC)

  • Are required to update or clear their study permit records with the International office in their respective Campuses prior to seeking registration clearance.

  • Pay the required continuing fees as per the proforma invoice obtained from your respective college office.

  • Forward proforma invoice and proof of payment to your Fees officer for financial clearance.

  • Clearance with outstanding debt – please refer above for outstanding debt process.

Student Funding

Please note that there are College Financial Aid Advisors on each Campus to assist funded students.

  • Loans: Automatic clearance will apply to students who have been awarded NSFAS Funding.
  • Bursaries and Scholarships from UKZN: An award equal to or greater than the minimum required deposits will allow automatic clearance. Students to submit their Merit Award voucher to the College Office – Student Funding for payment.
  • Sponsored Students: A letter from the sponsor, confirming the funding, addressed and payable to the University of KwaZulu-Natal, must reach the College Office – Student Funding well in advance prior to registration.
  • Bank Loan Students/Private Funding: Original bank letters, confirming the loan amount, payable directly to the University of KwaZulu-Natal must be presented to the Student Fees Office.
