School of Engineering Top Academic Staff & Students Honoured

The College of Agriculture, Engineering and Science’s School of Engineering recently hosted its Engineering awards luncheon to celebrate outstanding research output and academic performances of its staff and students.

The official welcome and main address at the event was delivered by Professor Jules-Raymond Tapamo, the acting Dean and Head of School. In his address, Professor Tapamo emphasised the importance of acknowledging the hard work, commitment and passion of the School’s academic staff and high performing students.

In previous years, the awards were handed out at the Engineering Awards Banquet, but this year, presented an opportunity for the School to put the spotlight on staff and students driving excellence in engineering and celebrate their achievements that have contributed to making the School one of the top engineering schools in South Africa.

The awards recognised top academic researchers and best lecturers in the five Disciplines within the School; and outstanding academic excellence of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The event culminated in awarding the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) merit medal to Mr Ben Sapo, a fourth-year Computer Engineering student for being the overall top Engineering student at UKZN for 2017.
